History of Japanese Fellowship
Simple Truth International Church was started in 2014 with three families as a house church. They set their focus and mission on those who have Japanese cultural and language heritage such as international students or married couples. The Lord guided them faithfully and they celebrated people’s life-changing and became witnesses to people entering into a merciful relationship with God.
In 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic began, Simple Truth began renting space from Village and built a great relationship with our pastors and directors. As they moved toward a ministry direction in prayer, the people of Simple Truth grew a desire to join Village. For several months, they prayed and sought the Lord’s guidance about this transition and integration with the leaders of Village. They felt that the process as like a small creek merging into a large river, with all water pouring into the great Ocean.
There are about 6000 Japanese living in Portland Metro Area. 60% are permanent residents. 40% are people here for work or school. Japan is one of the less Christian population countries among nations. However, the number of people who return to Japan from US as new Christians is now about 1,500 people every year. This number shows that God is opening and touching people’s hearts during their short stay here and providing more opportunities to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Becoming part of the multicultural community at Village means we celebrate and rejoice to be a part of this beautiful body of Christ among diverse people groups. We have much to learn, grow, and accomplish. But more than that, we are very excited and look forward to walking on the journey together as one church at Village.
